Who’s Leading the Way?
I’m Miguel, the person behind Volta Adventures. I was born and raised in Cascais, and this region has always been where I feel most at home, whether by the sea or in the mountains nearby.
I started working as a sailing skipper at 18 and spent years guiding people on the water. Eventually, I found myself drawn back to the land, sharing the same passion for adventure through hiking, exploring, and discovering hidden places around Cascais and Sintra. After guiding for others, I decided it was time to do it on my own terms, creating adventures that feel personal, relaxed, and meaningful.
Born from a Love of the Outdoors
Volta Adventures grew from that passion. Every adventure I offer is something I truly love, designed to help others enjoy nature, disconnect from the busy world, and simply have fun outdoors.

What does "Volta" Mean?
The name “volta” felt perfect from the start. In Portuguese, it’s a word full of meaning, it means a turn, a return, a lap, a stroll, a comeback. It’s about movement, change, and new beginnings.
Originally, my goal when working as an outdoor guide was to save enough money to sail halfway around the world with friends. That trip didn’t happen, but the savings became the foundation to start this business instead – a new kind of adventure. Now, I’m chasing a different dream: one day sailing around the world.
For me, “volta” captures everything I want to offer: meaningful adventures that invite people to explore, to step outside their comfort zones, and to create lasting memories.

Safety
At Volta Adventures, safety is part of every experience we design.
Each activity is led by experienced guides with strong technical knowledge, ensuring that all procedures are followed with care and attention, for both participants and the team. Our goal is simple: to create an environment where you can feel comfortable, supported, and free to fully enjoy the experience.
Whenever required, we provide personal safety equipment such as helmets, life vests, and other technical gear. Our guides are also equipped with first aid kits and communication devices, allowing us to respond effectively in any situation.
All technical equipment used in vertical activities complies with international safety standards, and every experience is covered by personal accident and liability insurance.
